Remember a little while ago, when I told you about ClaraParkes’ talk and book signing at a Verb for Keeping Warm? And I raved about her wonderful new book, The Knitter’s Book of Socks? (It would be wonderful even if I didn’t have a design included in the book, but I do, so that’s even better.)
Well, I just happen to have an extra copy of the book to give away. And it is signed by Clara!
That’s right! Clara’s erudite and entertaining exploration of socks, with an emphasis on the yarn that makes them luscious, plus 20 outstanding sock patterns from designers you know and admire, can all be yours.
All you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me about your favorite pair of socks, and what makes them your favorite. Leave your comment by Monday, November 21. On Tuesday, I’ll randomly pick a winner and send the book to you.
Good luck!
I like the socks I wore for my wedding. They were knee high rainbow striped handknit socks, that I felt captured the reverence I held for the day.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite are still the second I ever knit: Eunny's Bayerische socks. The yarn is Hazel Knits, the color, beach glass, is my favorite color still, and these socks began my love affair with twisted stitches. Plus I knit some of them in Italy! http://www.ravelry.com/projects/StephCat/bayerische-socks
ReplyDeleteMy favourite socks are Pomatamus (hope I got that name right!!) I have knitted them 5 times simply because they are so interesting to knit and impress everyone who sees them!
ReplyDeleteI have 2 favorite pairs because I am so lucky to have 2 knitting friends who have each made me socks. One a lovely lace pattern and one a pretty fair isle one, but then there is that pair I made this summer that look like sea weed... and the first pair where I learned how to knit a sock by heart while on a trip to Ireland, oh and my first ever pair... Do I really hafta pick just one???
ReplyDeleteMy favorIte pair is one I made for my daughter, the first thing in my long knitting career that I did with no pattern. I had a blast with it
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pair is always the pair I have on the needles at the moment...Almondine by Anne Hanson.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite socks perished years ago. They were slouchy & tie-dyed & comfy & cool and I wore them often. Perhaps too often, as they began to wear a bit thin. I didn't want to part with them just yet, so I relegated them for use in bed on nights when the temperatures dropped. I coddled them & coaxed them on for a few more years until the heels simply gave out. It was a sad day when I finally put them to rest, and I haven't had the nerve to love a pair of socks that much again. Pathetic, but true!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this book with us.
ReplyDeleteThat would be my ancient house socks, whose soles are now more darn than knit. They're made of something lopi-like, keep my feet just the right temperature, and can be pulled on with one hand.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite socks are more than 30 years old, red, high, with toes and belonged to my mom. A schizophrenic aunt of mine knitted them for her all those years ago and despite the wear, they are still going strong.
ReplyDeleteI haven't learnt to knit socks yet, but I've been willing to try for a while now :D
Nearly all of my socks are my favorites--it depends on the moment! I think part of what makes them favorites is the surprise factor--the pair I started for my husband but he couldn't get over his instep, in wine-red Austermann Step and which now fit me perfectly; the pairs I thought were tedious while I was knitting them but which turned out, probably because of the yarn, to be really comfy AND pretty (one in Knitivity, one in Regia sock yarn, one in Austermann); the one I knit in my own kool-ade dyed Trekking. In all of these socks, the common factor is the feel of the yarn and the fit of the socks--fluffy warm yarn, and snug fitting socks done in a fairly tight gauge.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite socks are my Charade Socks. I'm not a fan of lacey socks so any time I find a nice subtle textured sock I'm delighted. Mine are knit from Trekking bamboo and are so comfy and an absolute perfect fit!
ReplyDeleteThese are my favorite socks.

Soft yarn, colors that go with most things, perfect fit, you can tell I love them cuz the toes are almost worn through. Must dig through stash in search of leftover yarn scraps and darn the toes.
My favorite socks are always the ones I'm currently working on! I try to do different techniques with every pair I knit. What a nice giveaway...thank you!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pair of socks are the knee high worsted pair I knit for myself. http://www.ravelry.com/projects/NotoriousJWC/sweetheart-stockings. I knit them for myself during a fairly trying period in my life, and I always feel cheerful and pampered when I put them on.
ReplyDeleteI just made my first pair of socks "fishnet anklets" so much fun, they are a delight to wear. What a nice giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite pair of socks right now are my Julia socks - I'm still surprised by how well the yarn and pattern worked together.
ReplyDeleteI've never made anything other than the Yarn Harlot's plain vanilla sock recipe. Socks have too many stitches and last forever - the only thing that makes them interesting to me is using self-striping yarn. Then there was that pair using all these different scraps of non-matching yarn. Oh, and I loved the ones that exactly matched the fall foliage along a certain mountain road.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite socks are Braid Brocade from Bijou Basin Ranch http://www.shopatron.com/products/productdetail/part_number=9140/1211.0.1.1. There are cable movements on every other row, which makes them a fun and complex knit. The yak yarn makes them incredibly soft and warm and well worth the labor!
ReplyDeleteAlice Beam a dear friend knitted me a pair of socks before she moved to Montana (we were both in CA at the time). Now I live in Australia and each time I touch those socks I have the most wonderful warm memories of a lady I may never see again!
ReplyDeleteI love socks. Mostly giving them away. I travel a great deal, always having a pair of sock on my needles.
ReplyDeleteMany time I will be just finishing up, when someone has been watching me knit. I hand the to
them wishing them warm feet.
I'm a huge Clara Parkes fan, and I'm waiting for this book to make my first pair of socks. So while I haven't made them yet, I'll call the Saxon the City thigh-high socks my favorite -- I've wanted to make them for a long time. So cute!
